Moving Ministers

The annual changeover is now taking place, with many ministers and their families moving out and away to new circuits, being replaced by others moving in. For all of them it is a busy, challenging and emotionally demanding time, firstly saying a seemingly endless number of farewells, then immediately facing an endless series of welcomes into a strange, new environment. Some enjoy moving: others hate it.

From the Leeds Mission Circuit Deacon Ruth Hinch is moving to Leicester (West), to be succeeded by Probationer Deacon Jennifer Jones. Rev Ray Hinch is moving from Leeds East to Leicester (West) as a supernumerary minister.

The Rev Charity Hamilton comes from Wesley College, Bristol, to Headingley and West as a Probationer Presbyter as the Revd Sue Smith moves to Warrington

The Revd John P. Mason is coming from Carlisle to the Leeds East Circuit. The Revds Robert & Pat Creamer have moved manses within Leeds East

In the Leeds Wesley Circuit the Revd Alistair S. Jones is coming from Enfield to succeed the Revd Gregory S. Haynes, who is moving to North East Somerset and Bath as a supernumerary minister..

The Revd Barbara J. Fairburn comes from Hinckley to the Morley Circuit. Deacon David W. Smith is moving from Morley to Manchester.

Harrogate sees the Revd Shaun Swithinbank move to Durham and Deerness Valley, and Deacon Rosemary Coggrave move to Stoke-on-Trent. The Revd J. Trevor Dixon, who lives in the Harrogate Circuit, will become an Active Supernumerary in the circuit

Deacon Rowland H. Wilkinson retires to Pateley Bridge from West Durham.

The Revd Neil Dixon returns to the District from Durham, to be stationed as a supernumerary minister in Otley and Aireborough.

From East Durham the Revd Jennifer M. Gill is moving to Castleford, whilst Deacon Jennifer M. Knight goes from Castleford to the Wirral. The Revd J. Robin E. Fox is also moving from Castleford and going to Buckley and Deeside. The Revd Henry Dubois moves from Wensleydale to Castleford as Superintendent minister.

In Wakefield Circuit the Revd Naomi N. Kaiga from the Rotherham and Dearne Valley Circuit joins the circuit team and the Revd Trevor Grewcock relinquishes his active supernumerary status.

The Revd Lee A. Harrison, a supernumerary minister in the Pontefract and Normanton Circuit, is moving to Airedale.

To all those who are leaving, we give thanks for their ministry and wish them God's blessing. We welcome heartily and expectantly the newcomers and the talents they bring.

Garden of Creation

A new sensory garden, named “The Garden of Creation,” has been opened at Burley in Wharfedale Methodist Church. The garden is the result of a joint project between the Church and Little School Pre-school, who meet on the Church premises. Funding for the project came largely from Bradford Authority (£30,000) with smaller donations from local groups and individuals.

The Garden, based on the stories of Creation and Noah’s Ark, was the idea of Little School Proprietor Helen Franks and was designed by local garden designer Helen Taylor. There is a discovery trail which runs through the garden and incorporated in it are a series of mosaic tiles created by David James of Olicana Mosaics in Ilkley, depicting different scenes from the story of Creation. The planting around the garden has been designed to tie in with the mosaics and reflect the different aspects of the story.

Along the back wall of the church and throughout the garden there are pairs of wooden animals, created by Lewis Morgan, making their way towards a centrally placed Noah’s Ark. The children of Little School had a great time working with Lewis to design the animals. The final section of the garden is a wild-life area, complete with wooden rats and hedgehogs as well as lots of real life creepy crawlies for the children to discover.

Ordination in the District

A rare opportunity to attend an ordination service within the District happened in August. The Revd Graeme Dutton, who ministers at Alwoodley Park, Moortown and Shadwell in the Leeds North East Circuit, was unable to attend his ordination service during the Methodist Conference because his wife contracted an infection and had to return to hospital after giving birth to a daughter a few days before Conference. Graeme was received into Full Connexion in his absence. THis ordination service, on Sunday, 15th August, at Lidgett Park Methodist Church, was led by the Revd David Gamble, Ex-President of Conference.

Website out-of-date?

This website is usually updated every few weeksk, though sometimes if news is slack it may go to a month. If what you are seeing is significantly older than that, the problem lies either with your browser settings or with your ISP.

Your browser may be set to get the files stored on your hard disk in the temporary internet files folder. Your browser should have a 'Refresh' key (try F5 ) to force the browser to download the file from the internet. If that doesn't work, try the Settings or Internet Options and find how to delete all temporary internet files. (You'll probably find that you are reading out-of-date versions of all the sites you've previously visited.) The problem will go on recurring unless you change your browser setting to make it download from the internet every time.

If these don't work, it's probably your ISP that's responsible. AOL, for example, uses a proxy cache to store files. If they are out of date there's nothing we can do. You'd do best to change to a better ISP.
