New and popular books from the Methodist Publishing House's catalogue and the Canterbury-SCM Press catalogue are available for purchase at both the Spring and Autumn Synods. These include official Methodist Church publications and books from MPH and Epworth Press. Profits from sales (over £100 per year) are given to the District Training Fund.

If there is a particular title you want to purchase or inspect, contact John Summerwill at least a month before Synod and he will order it for you.

Volunteers required by Oxford Place Children’s Centre

Oxford Place Children’s Centre has a team of volunteers to help our paid staff look after young children whose adult carers are attending the nearby courts in Leeds. We need at least one volunteer to help every day; on some days we need two. We work on a four weekly rota.

There are two types of volunteer:
1.Regular Volunteers. These people do a regular day once a week, once a fortnight or once a month, on a four weekly cycle.
2. Floating Volunteers. These people do not have a fixed regular commitment, but come in when they are needed. The Volunteer Organiser contacts them and asks if they are free on the required day. If they are not available the Organiser will try the next person on the list.

If you care about the welfare of young children and think you might be able to help in this way, please ring the Volunteer Organiser, Mrs Irene Hebden, on 0113 2604561 for an initial ‘no commitment’ conversation about what is involved.

World Development Officer

The World Development Movement would like to have a link-person for the Leeds District. He or she should have an interest in world development issues and be prepared to be an advocate for them within the District. As we do not currently have such a post it is not located anywhere within the District structures. If a suitable person can be found we will agree with the post holder how that might best be done.
